Adopt A Highway

Go back to Past Troop Activities

Twice a year, Boy Scout Troop 127 picks up litter along a section of highway for a community service project.  We are responsible for cleaning up both sides of a two mile stretch of Highway 61, starting at the Industrial Connector.

On May 10, scouts from our troop donned work gloves and bright orange safety vests.  They broke up into four groups, two on either side of the road, starting at each end of our area and working towards the weigh station in the center.

Each scout slowly filled their bag as they walked nearly a mile back to the weigh station.  Once the cleaning was done, over twenty full garbage bags were loaded into trucks and taken off to the dump.

As a reward, the scouts not only received service hours towards rank advancement, but also pop to drink for their hard work.

Adopt-A-Highway is a great project that makes our city look better, and I hope we continue to make Muscatine look beautiful.
